Ruth Marcus, Training Director

Ruth Marcus is the Training Director for Russell & Jeffcoat Realtors since 1986.

Ruth grew up in Pennsylvania and graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a degree in Education. She later received master credits from the University of North Carolina in Education Administration. After university, Ruth taught school for eighteen years in Tokyo, Japan; Cincinnati, Ohio; and Gastonia, North Carolina. She also mentored and supervised student teachers in the classroom. She also used her administrative skills to supervise and direct three religious schools.

In 1980 Ruth and her family moved to Ottawa, Canada where she changed her career path to real estate. She took extensive training including 450 hours for licensing with courses in law, appraisal, financing, and administration. Ruth was affiliated with Royal LePage Real Estate Services Ltd., Canada’s largest real estate company, and quickly became one of their top agents. Her knowledge, skills, and production were recognized and she was asked to become the manager of their downtown branch. During her term as manager, she utilized her training skills to assist agents and quickly moved her office to a higher level of production.

In 1986, Ruth moved to Columbia and became a licensed broker. Russell & Jeffcoat Realtors asked her to be Training Director and to devise a training program for agents. Ruth elected to also remain in sales to continue to be involved in the real estate market.

Since 1986, Ruth has received her GRI, CRS, and ABR designations. She became an approved instructor for continuing education, has been a REF instructor, and has taken numerous workshops offered by the South Carolina Real Estate Commission, PREEA, and REEA. She has developed training courses for agents, including several approved for continuing education. Real Estate the RITE Way satisfies the thirty hours for permanent sales license. How to Maximize Your Business: Dealing with Sellers and Buyer gives fifteen hours of continuing education and sharpens prospecting, presentation, and selling skills. Ruth does advanced training for new agents in topics of agency, fair housing, financing and costs, lead paint, and prospecting.

Throughout her real estate career, Ruth has consistently been a multi-million dollar producer and a lifetime member of Greater Columbia Association of Realtors Circle of Excellence.

Ruth has a special fondness for teaching. Training agents has given her the opportunity to watch and help people to grow and be successful in real estate. She says, “As I do a real estate deal with them I get such pleasure knowing that I helped them to get started.”
